How aging impacts brain health: Preemptive intervention with neuromodulation

Popular opinion holds that as we age, our brains undergo cognitive decline. However, current research challenges this thought, suggesting that healthy aging does not cause people to lose neurons. In fact, as we age, our brain continues to create new brain cells in our memory centre well into our later years. This research shows that our brain continues to adapt as we get older, improving our brain health.

What is involved in maintaining brain health?

Step One: Brainwave Recording

The first step in your journey is for our team to review your physical and mental health history to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for MeRT (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy).

Next, we perform a 10-minute, eyes-closed QEEG (qualitative electroencephalogram) and an EKG (electrocardiogram) to measure heart rate, brainwave frequency, and brain-heart activity.

Step Two: Analyzing Data

After this, your recording is sent to Wave Neuroscience’s cloud platform for processing, where it is compared against an extensive database of brainwave patterns. A digital image of your brain is included in a comprehensive report detailing your findings and comparative findings (by age and gender).

If your report shows you are a good candidate, the protocols outlined in the data collected are delivered through a process called MeRT. During our consultation, we discuss our customized treatment plan outlining how many sessions you will need and the duration.

Step Three: Customized Care

While you are receiving treatment, we continually monitor your well-being and the effectiveness of treatment. Typically, we begin with daily, 30-minute sessions (five days a week) for one month. After several weeks have passed, another 10-minute assessment is done to determine treatment effectiveness. In this session, we look for changes in brainwave activity stemming from brain stimulation.

Going forward, your care will be managed and regularly measured through assessments every 10 days. Your process is quantified through a series of third-party neurocognitive assessments, instruments, and questionnaires.

MeRT is non-invasive and relatively painless. It works by placing a series of electrodes on a targeted area on your head. Gentle, magnetic waves stimulate and harmonize brainwave activity, resulting in better functioning in the specified area.
